CentOS 9 : kernel-5.14.0-573.el9

high Nessus Plugin ID 233298

Synopsis

The remote CentOS host is missing one or more security updates for kernel.

Description

The remote CentOS Linux 9 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the kernel-5.14.0-573.el9 build changelog.

- In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: sg: Fix slab-use-after-free read in sg_release() Fix a use-after-free bug in sg_release(), detected by syzbot with KASAN: BUG: KASAN: slab- use-after-free in lock_release+0x151/0xa30 kernel/locking/lockdep.c:5838
__mutex_unlock_slowpath+0xe2/0x750 kernel/locking/mutex.c:912 sg_release+0x1f4/0x2e0 drivers/scsi/sg.c:407 In sg_release(), the function kref_put(&sfp->f_ref, sg_remove_sfp) is called before releasing the open_rel_lock mutex. The kref_put() call may decrement the reference count of sfp to zero, triggering its cleanup through sg_remove_sfp(). This cleanup includes scheduling deferred work via sg_remove_sfp_usercontext(), which ultimately frees sfp. After kref_put(), sg_release() continues to unlock open_rel_lock and may reference sfp or sdp. If sfp has already been freed, this results in a slab- use-after-free error. Move the kref_put(&sfp->f_ref, sg_remove_sfp) call after unlocking the open_rel_lock mutex. This ensures: - No references to sfp or sdp occur after the reference count is decremented. - Cleanup functions such as sg_remove_sfp() and sg_remove_sfp_usercontext() can safely execute without impacting the mutex handling in sg_release(). The fix has been tested and validated by syzbot. This patch closes the bug reported at the following syzkaller link and ensures proper sequencing of resource cleanup and mutex operations, eliminating the risk of use-after-free errors in sg_release(). (CVE-2024-56631)

- In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: can: isotp: sanitize CAN ID checks in isotp_bind() Syzbot created an environment that lead to a state machine status that can not be reached with a compliant CAN ID address configuration. The provided address information consisted of CAN ID 0x6000001 and 0xC28001 which both boil down to 11 bit CAN IDs 0x001 in sending and receiving. Sanitize the SFF/EFF CAN ID values before performing the address checks. (CVE-2022-49269)

- In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: can: bcm: Fix UAF in bcm_proc_show() BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in bcm_proc_show+0x969/0xa80 Read of size 8 at addr ffff888155846230 by task cat/7862 CPU: 1 PID: 7862 Comm: cat Not tainted 6.5.0-rc1-00153-gc8746099c197 #230 Hardware name:

- In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: x86/xen: don't do PV iret hypercall through hypercall page Instead of jumping to the Xen hypercall page for doing the iret hypercall, directly code the required sequence in xen-asm.S. This is done in preparation of no longer using hypercall page at all, as it has shown to cause problems with speculation mitigations. This is part of XSA-466 / CVE-2024-53241. (CVE-2024-53241)

- In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: megaraid_sas: Fix for a potential deadlock This fixes a 'possible circular locking dependency detected' warning CPU0 CPU1 ----
---- lock(&instance->reset_mutex); lock(&shost->scan_mutex); lock(&instance->reset_mutex);
lock(&shost->scan_mutex); Fix this by temporarily releasing the reset_mutex. (CVE-2024-57807)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.
