Mozilla Thunderbird < 128.9

high Nessus Plugin ID 233744

Synopsis

A mail client installed on the remote Windows host is affected by multiple vulnerabilities.

Description

The version of Thunderbird installed on the remote Windows host is prior to 128.9. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the mfsa2025-24 advisory.

- Memory safety bugs present in Firefox 136, Thunderbird 136, Firefox ESR 128.8, and Thunderbird 128.8. Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption and we presume that with enough effort some of these could have been exploited to run arbitrary code. (CVE-2025-3030)

- JavaScript code running while transforming a document with the XSLTProcessor could lead to a use-after- free. (CVE-2025-3028)

- A crafted URL containing specific Unicode characters could have hidden the true origin of the page, resulting in a potential spoofing attack. (CVE-2025-3029)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Mozilla Thunderbird version 128.9 or later.
