Azure Linux 3.0 Security Update: bpftrace (CVE-2024-2313)

low Nessus Plugin ID 234296

Synopsis

The remote Azure Linux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The version of bpftrace installed on the remote Azure Linux 3.0 host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the CVE-2024-2313 advisory.

- If kernel headers need to be extracted, bpftrace will attempt to load them from a temporary directory. An unprivileged attacker could use this to force bcc to load compromised linux headers. Linux distributions which provide kernel headers by default are not affected by default. (CVE-2024-2313)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
