Mattermost Server 9.11.x < 9.11.10 / 10.5.x < 10.5.2 / 10.6.0 (MMSA-2025-00453)

low Nessus Plugin ID 234796

Synopsis

The remote host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of Mattermost Server installed on the remote host is prior to 9.11.10 or 10.5.2 / 10.6.0. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the MMSA-2025-00453 advisory.

- Mattermost versions 10.5.x <= 10.5.1, 9.11.x <= 9.11.9 fail to enforce MFA checks in PUT /api/v4/users/user-id/mfa when the requesting user differs from the target user ID, which allows users with edit_other_users permission to activate or deactivate MFA for other users, even if those users have not set up MFA. (CVE-2025-27538)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Mattermost Server version 9.11.10 / 10.5.2 / 10.6.0 or later.
