Synopsis

The remote Red Hat host is missing one or more security updates for tar.

Description

The remote Redhat Enterprise Linux 4 / 5 host has a package installed that is affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the RHSA-2010:0141 advisory.

- tar/cpio stack crashing in safer_name_suffix (CVE-2007-4476)

- tar, cpio: Heap-based buffer overflow by expanding a specially-crafted archive (CVE-2010-0624)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the RHEL tar package based on the guidance in RHSA-2010:0141.
