Synopsis

The remote Red Hat host is missing one or more security updates for logrotate.

Description

The remote Redhat Enterprise Linux 6 host has a package installed that is affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the RHSA-2011:0407 advisory.

 - logrotate: TOCTOU race condition by creation of new files (between opening the file and moment, final permissions have been applied) [information disclosure] (CVE-2011-1098)

 - logrotate: Shell command injection by using the shred configuration directive (CVE-2011-1154)

 - logrotate: DoS due improper escaping of file names within 'write state' action (CVE-2011-1155)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the RHEL logrotate package based on the guidance in RHSA-2011:0407.
