Ubuntu 10.04 LTS / 11.04 / 11.10 : network-manager vulnerability (USN-1483-1)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 59754

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security-related patch.

Description

It was discovered that certain wireless drivers incorrectly handled the creation of WPA-secured AdHoc connections. This could result in AdHoc wireless connections being created without any security at all.
This update removes WPA as a security choice for AdHoc connections in NetworkManager.

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Solution

Update the affected network-manager package.
