Ubuntu 11.04 / 11.10 / 12.04 LTS : freeradius vulnerability (USN-1585-1)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 62348

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security-related patch.

Description

Timo Warns discovered that FreeRADIUS incorrectly handled certain long timestamps in client certificates. A remote attacker could exploit this flaw and cause the FreeRADIUS server to crash, resulting in a denial of service, or possibly execute arbitrary code.

The default compiler options for affected releases should reduce the vulnerability to a denial of service.

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.
