RHEL 6 : jbossweb (RHSA-2013:0629)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 65207

Synopsis

The remote Red Hat host is missing one or more security updates for jbossweb.

Description

The remote Redhat Enterprise Linux 6 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the RHSA-2013:0629 advisory.

JBoss Web is the web container, based on Apache Tomcat, in JBoss Enterprise Application Platform. It provides a single deployment platform for the JavaServer Pages (JSP) and Java Servlet technologies.

Multiple weaknesses were found in the JBoss Web DIGEST authentication implementation, effectively reducing the security normally provided by DIGEST authentication. A remote attacker could use these flaws to perform replay attacks in some circumstances. (CVE-2012-5885, CVE-2012-5886, CVE-2012-5887)

Warning: Before applying this update, back up your existing JBoss Enterprise Application Platform installation (including all applications and configuration files).

All users of JBoss Enterprise Application Platform 5.2.0 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, 5, and 6 are advised to upgrade to these updated packages. The JBoss server process must be restarted for the update to take effect.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Red Hat Enterprise Linux security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the RHEL jbossweb package based on the guidance in RHSA-2013:0629.
