Amazon Linux AMI : kernel (ALAS-2012-78)

low Nessus Plugin ID 69685

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux AMI host is missing a security update.

Description

The rio_ioctl function in drivers/net/ethernet/dlink/dl2k.c in the Linux kernel before 3.3.7 does not restrict access to the SIOCSMIIREG command, which allows local users to write data to an Ethernet adapter via an ioctl call.

Solution

Run 'yum update kernel' to update your system. You will need to reboot your system in order for the new kernel to be running.
