WordPress < 3.0.1 Security Bypass

low Nessus Plugin ID 72960

Synopsis

The remote web server contains a PHP application that is affected by a security bypass vulnerability.

Description

According to its version number, the WordPress install hosted on the remote web server is affected by a security bypass vulnerability.

When using a multisite installation, when the 'site administrators can add users' option is enabled, it cannot be turned off. This allows a remote, authenticated administrator to bypass intended access restrictions.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to WordPress 3.0.1 or later.
