Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 14.04 LTS host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-2230-1 advisory.

Thomas Stangner discovered that chkrootkit incorrectly quoted certain values. A local attacker could use this issue to execute arbitrary code when chkrootkit is run and gain root privileges.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected chkrootkit package.
