Ubuntu 14.04 LTS : Requests vulnerability (USN-2531-1)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 81879

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 14.04 LTS host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-2531-1 advisory.

Matthew Daley discovered that Requests incorrectly handled cookies without host values when being redirected. A remote attacker could possibly use this issue to perform session fixation or cookie stealing attacks.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected python-requests and / or python3-requests packages.
