Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 14.04 LTS host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-2593-1 advisory.

 Nick Sampanis discovered that Dnsmasq incorrectly handled certain malformed DNS requests. A remote attacker could use this issue to cause Dnsmasq to crash, resulting in a denial of service, or possibly obtain sensitive information.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected dnsmasq, dnsmasq-base and / or dnsmasq-utils packages.
