Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 14.04 LTS host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-2599-1 advisory.

 A race condition between chown() and execve() was discovered in the Linux kernel. A local attacker could exploit this race by using chown on a setuid-user-binary to gain administrative privileges.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected kernel package.
