Atlassian JIRA < 5.0.7 Privilege Escalation

high Nessus Plugin ID 85218

Synopsis

The remote web server hosts a web application that is potentially affected by a privilege escalation vulnerability.

Description

According to its self-reported version number, the version of Atlassian JIRA hosted on the remote web server is prior to 5.0.7. It is, therefore, potentially affected by a privilege escalation vulnerability. A remote attacker, using a crafted URL, can exploit this to bypass administrator-only authorization controls, thus gaining the ability to execute a large number of possible administrative actions.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Atlassian JIRA 5.0.7 or later, or apply the vendor-supplied patch that applies to your installed version.
