RHEL 6 : httpd (RHSA-2015:1668)

high Nessus Plugin ID 85618

Synopsis

The remote Red Hat host is missing a security update for httpd.

Description

The remote Redhat Enterprise Linux 6 host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the RHSA-2015:1668 advisory.

The httpd packages provide the Apache HTTP Server, a powerful, efficient, and extensible web server.

Multiple flaws were found in the way httpd parsed HTTP requests and responses using chunked transfer encoding. A remote attacker could use these flaws to create a specially crafted request, which httpd would decode differently from an HTTP proxy software in front of it, possibly leading to HTTP request smuggling attacks. (CVE-2015-3183)

All httpd users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which contain a backported patch to correct this issue. After installing the updated packages, the httpd service will be restarted automatically.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Red Hat Enterprise Linux security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the RHEL httpd package based on the guidance in RHSA-2015:1668.
