Ubuntu 16.04 LTS : libndp vulnerability (USN-2980-1)

high Nessus Plugin ID 91218

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 16.04 LTS host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-2980-1 advisory.

Julien Bernard discovered that libndp incorrectly performed origin checks when receiving Neighbor Discovery Protocol (NDP) messages. A remote attacker outside of the local network could use this issue to advertise a node as a router, causing a denial of service, or possibly to act as a machine-in-the-middle.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected libndp-dev, libndp-tools and / or libndp0 packages.
