Debian DLA-564-1 : tardiff security update

critical Nessus Plugin ID 92587

Synopsis

The remote Debian host is missing a security update.

Description

Two vulnerabilities were found in tardiff :

CVE-2015-0857

Arbitrary command execution was possible via shell metacharacters in the name of a (1) tar file or (2) file within a tar file.

CVE-2015-0858

Local users could write to arbitrary files via a symlink attack on a pathname in a /tmp/tardiff-$$ temporary directory.

For Debian 7 'Wheezy', these problems have been fixed in version 0.1-1+deb7u1.

We recommend that you upgrade your tardiff packages.

NOTE: Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the DLA security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Solution

Upgrade the affected tardiff package.
