Ubuntu 14.04 LTS / 16.04 LTS : Libgcrypt vulnerability (USN-3065-1)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 93046

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 14.04 LTS / 16.04 LTS host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-3065-1 advisory.

Felix Drre and Vladimir Klebanov discovered that Libgcrypt incorrectly handled mixing functions in the random number generator. An attacker able to obtain 4640 bits from the RNG can trivially predict the next 160 bits of output.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
