Ubuntu 14.04 LTS / 16.04 LTS : Tomcat vulnerability (USN-3081-1)

high Nessus Plugin ID 93600

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 14.04 LTS / 16.04 LTS host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-3081-1 advisory.

Dawid Golunski discovered that the Tomcat init script incorrectly handled creating log files. A remote attacker could possibly use this issue to

obtain root privileges. (CVE-2016-1240)

This update also reverts a change in behaviour introduced in USN-3024-1 by setting mapperContextRootRedirectEnabled to True by default.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
