The IBRS bit implicitly protects against cross-thread branch target injection.
    However, with legacy IBRS, the IBRS bit was cleared on returning to userspace, due to performance reasons,     which disabled the implicit STIBP and left userspace threads vulnerable to cross-thread branch target     injection against which STIBP protects. (CVE-2023-1998)

  - The fix for XSA-423 added logic to Linux'es netback driver to deal with a frontend splitting a packet in a     way such that not all of the headers would come in one piece. Unfortunately the logic introduced there     didn't account for the extreme case of the entire packet being split into as many pieces as permitted by     the protocol, yet still being smaller than the area that's specially dealt with to keep all (possible)     headers together. Such an unusual packet would therefore trigger a buffer overrun in the driver.

  - Closing of an event channel in the Linux kernel can result in a deadlock. This happens when the close is     being performed in parallel to an unrelated Xen console action and the handling of a Xen console interrupt     in an unprivileged guest. The closing of an event channel is e.g. triggered by removal of a paravirtual     device on the other side. As this action will cause console messages to be issued on the other side quite     often, the chance of triggering the deadlock is not neglectable. Note that 32-bit Arm-guests are not     affected, as the 32-bit Linux kernel on Arm doesn't use queued-RW-locks, which are required to trigger the     issue (on Arm32 a waiting writer doesn't block further readers to get the lock).   - The Linux kernel allows userspace processes to enable mitigations by calling prctl with     PR_SET_SPECULATION_CTRL which disables the speculation feature as well as by using seccomp. We had noticed     that on VMs of at least one major cloud provider, the kernel still left the victim process exposed to     attacks in some cases even after enabling the spectre-BTI mitigation with prctl. The same behavior can be     observed on a bare-metal machine when forcing the mitigation to IBRS on boot command line. This happened     because when plain IBRS was enabled (not enhanced IBRS), the kernel had some logic that determined that     STIBP was not needed. The IBRS bit implicitly protects against cross-thread branch target injection.
    However, with legacy IBRS, the IBRS bit was cleared on returning to userspace, due to performance reasons,     which disabled the implicit STIBP and left userspace threads vulnerable to cross-thread branch target     injection against which STIBP protects. (CVE-2023-1998)

  - An out-of-bounds memory access flaw was found in the Linux kernel's XFS file system in how a user restores     an XFS image after failure (with a dirty log journal). This flaw allows a local user to crash or     potentially escalate their privileges on the system. (CVE-2023-2124)
