An array index error, leading to a stack-based buffer overflow, was found in the Wireshark ENTTEC dissector. If Wireshark read a malformed packet off a network or opened a malicious dump file, it could crash or, possibly, execute arbitrary code as the user running Wireshark.

Updated wireshark packages that fix one security issue are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, 5, and 6.

Wireshark was updated to version 1.4.4 to fix several security issues.

A vulnerability has been found and corrected in wireshark :

Buffer overflow in epan/dissectors/packet-enttec.c in Wireshark 1.4.2 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted ENTTEC DMX packet with Run Length Encoding (RLE) compression (CVE-2010-4538).

The updated packages have been patched to correct this issue.

Wireshark was updated to version 1.4.4 to fix several security issues

It was discovered that a buffer overflow in the ENTTEC dissector may lead to the execution of arbitrary code.
