  - A use-after-free flaw was found in the way the Linux     kernel's Datagram Congestion Control Protocol (DCCP)     implementation freed SKB (socket buffer) resources for     a DCCP_PKT_REQUEST packet when the IPV6_RECVPKTINFO     option is set on the socket.   - A use-after-free flaw was found in the CXGB3 kernel     driver when the network was considered to be congested.
    The kernel incorrectly misinterpreted the congestion as     an error condition and incorrectly freed or cleaned up     the socket buffer (skb). When the device then sent the     skb's queued data, these structures were referenced. A     local attacker could use this flaw to panic the system     (denial of service) or, with a local account, escalate     their privileges.(CVE-2015-8812i1/4%0

  - A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's     networking implementation handled UDP packets with     incorrect checksum values.   - A flaw was discovered in the way the Linux kernel dealt     with paging structures. When the kernel invalidated a     paging structure that was not in use locally, it could,     in principle, race against another CPU that is     switching to a process that uses the paging structure     in question. A local user could use a thread running     with a stale cached virtual-i1/4zphysical translation to     potentially escalate their privileges if the     translation in question were writable and the physical     page got reused for something critical (for example, a     page table).(CVE-2016-2069i1/4%0

  - Use after free vulnerability was found in percpu using     previously allocated memory in bpf. First
    __alloc_percpu_gfp() is called, then the memory is     freed with free_percpu() which triggers async     pcpu_balance_work and then pcpu_extend_area_map could     use a chunk after it has been freed.(CVE-2016-4794i1/4%0

  - A missing authorization check in the     fscrypt_process_policy function in fs/crypto/policy.c     in the ext4 and f2fs filesystem encryption support in     the Linux kernel allows a user to assign an encryption     policy to a directory owned by a different user,     potentially creating a denial of     service.(CVE-2016-10318i1/4%0

  - The security_context_to_sid_core function in     security/selinux/ss/services.c in the Linux kernel     before 3.13.4 allows local users to cause a denial of     service (system crash) by leveraging the CAP_MAC_ADMIN     capability to set a zero-length security     context.(CVE-2014-1874i1/4%0

  - The vfe31_proc_general function in     drivers/media/video/msm/vfe/msm_vfe31.c in the     MSM-VFE31 driver for the Linux kernel 3.x, as used in     Qualcomm Innovation Center (QuIC) Android contributions     for MSM devices and other products, does not validate a     certain id value, which allows attackers to gain     privileges or cause a denial of service (memory     corruption) via an application that makes a crafted     ioctl call.(CVE-2014-9410i1/4%0

  - A vulnerability was found in the Key Management sub     component of the Linux kernel, where when trying to     issue a KEYTCL_READ on a negative key would lead to a     NULL pointer dereference. A local attacker could use     this flaw to crash the kernel.(CVE-2017-12192i1/4%0

  - Out-of-bounds memory read in the x509_decode_time     function in x509_cert_parser.c in Linux kernels 4.3-rc1     and after.(CVE-2015-5327i1/4%0

  - It was found that the espfix functionality does not     work for 32-bit KVM paravirtualized guests. A local,     unprivileged guest user could potentially use this flaw     to leak kernel stack addresses.(CVE-2014-8134i1/4%0

  - An out-of-bounds write flaw was found in the way the     Apple Magic Mouse/Trackpad multi-touch driver handled     Human Interface Device (HID) reports with an invalid     size. An attacker with physical access to the system     could use this flaw to crash the system or,     potentially, escalate their privileges on the     system.(CVE-2014-3181i1/4%0

  - A use-after-free flaw was found in the way the Linux     kernel's key management subsystem handled keyring     object reference counting in certain error path of the     join_session_keyring() function. A local, unprivileged     user could use this flaw to escalate their privileges     on the system.(CVE-2016-0728i1/4%0

  - Use-after-free vulnerability in the skb_segment     function in net/core/skbuff.c in the Linux kernel     through 3.13.6 allows attackers to obtain sensitive     information from kernel memory by leveraging the     absence of a certain orphaning     operation.(CVE-2014-0131i1/4%0

Multiple vulnerabilities has been found and corrected in the Linux kernel :

The Crypto API in the Linux kernel before 3.18.5 allows local users to load arbitrary kernel modules via a bind system call for an AF_ALG socket with a module name in the salg_name field, a different vulnerability than CVE-2014-9644 (CVE-2013-7421).

arch/x86/kvm/vmx.c in the KVM subsystem in the Linux kernel before 3.17.2 on Intel processors does not ensure that the value in the CR4 control register remains the same after a VM entry, which allows host OS users to kill arbitrary processes or cause a denial of service (system disruption) by leveraging /dev/kvm access, as demonstrated by PR_SET_TSC prctl calls within a modified copy of QEMU (CVE-2014-3690).

arch/x86/kernel/tls.c in the Thread Local Storage (TLS) implementation in the Linux kernel through 3.18.1 allows local users to bypass the espfix protection mechanism, and consequently makes it easier for local users to bypass the ASLR protection mechanism, via a crafted application that makes a set_thread_area system call and later reads a 16-bit value (CVE-2014-8133).

net/netfilter/nf_conntrack_proto_generic.c in the Linux kernel before 3.18 generates incorrect conntrack entries during handling of certain iptables rule sets for the SCTP, DCCP, GRE, and UDP-Lite protocols, which allows remote attackers to bypass intended access restrictions via packets with disallowed port numbers (CVE-2014-8160).

The Linux kernel through 3.17.4 does not properly restrict dropping of supplemental group memberships in certain namespace scenarios, which allows local users to bypass intended file permissions by leveraging a POSIX ACL containing an entry for the group category that is more restrictive than the entry for the other category, aka a negative groups issue, related to kernel/groups.c, kernel/uid16.c, and kernel/user_namespace.c (CVE-2014-8989).

The __switch_to function in arch/x86/kernel/process_64.c in the Linux kernel through 3.18.1 does not ensure that Thread Local Storage (TLS) descriptors are loaded before proceeding with other steps, which makes it easier for local users to bypass the ASLR protection mechanism via a crafted application that reads a TLS base address (CVE-2014-9419).

The rock_continue function in fs/isofs/rock.c in the Linux kernel through 3.18.1 does not restrict the number of Rock Ridge continuation entries, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (infinite loop, and system crash or hang) via a crafted iso9660 image (CVE-2014-9420).

The parse_rock_ridge_inode_internal function in fs/isofs/rock.c in the Linux kernel before 3.18.2 does not validate a length value in the Extensions Reference (ER) System Use Field, which allows local users to obtain sensitive information from kernel memory via a crafted iso9660 image (CVE-2014-9584).

The vdso_addr function in arch/x86/vdso/vma.c in the Linux kernel through 3.18.2 does not properly choose memory locations for the vDSO area, which makes it easier for local users to bypass the ASLR protection mechanism by guessing a location at the end of a PMD (CVE-2014-9585).

The Crypto API in the Linux kernel before 3.18.5 allows local users to load arbitrary kernel modules via a bind system call for an AF_ALG socket with a parenthesized module template expression in the salg_name field, as demonstrated by the vfat(aes) expression, a different vulnerability than CVE-2013-7421 (CVE-2014-9644).

Off-by-one error in the ecryptfs_decode_from_filename function in fs/ecryptfs/crypto.c in the eCryptfs subsystem in the Linux kernel before 3.18.2 allows local users to cause a denial of service (buffer overflow and system crash) or possibly gain privileges via a crafted filename (CVE-2014-9683).

The em_sysenter function in arch/x86/kvm/emulate.c in the Linux kernel before 3.18.5, when the guest OS lacks SYSENTER MSR initialization, allows guest OS users to gain guest OS privileges or cause a denial of service (guest OS crash) by triggering use of a 16-bit code segment for emulation of a SYSENTER instruction (CVE-2015-0239).

The updated packages provides a solution for these security issues.

The remote Ubuntu 14.04 LTS host has a package installed that is affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the USN-2516-1 advisory.

    A flaw was discovered in the Kernel Virtual Machine's (KVM) emulation of the SYSTENTER instruction when     the guest OS does not initialize the SYSENTER MSRs. A guest OS user could exploit this flaw to cause a     denial of service of the guest OS (crash) or potentially gain privileges on the guest OS. (CVE-2015-0239)

    Andy Lutomirski discovered an information leak in the Linux kernel's Thread Local Storage (TLS)     implementation allowing users to bypass the espfix to obtain information that could be used to bypass the     Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) protection mechanism. A local user could exploit this flaw to     obtain potentially sensitive information from kernel memory. (CVE-2014-8133)

    A restriction bypass was discovered in iptables when conntrack rules are specified and the conntrack     protocol handler module is not loaded into the Linux kernel. This flaw can cause the firewall rules on the     system to be bypassed when conntrack rules are used. (CVE-2014-8160)

    A flaw was discovered with file renaming in the linux kernel. A local user could exploit this flaw to     cause a denial of service (deadlock and system hang). (CVE-2014-8559)

    A flaw was discovered in how supplemental group memberships are handled in certain namespace scenarios. A     local user could exploit this flaw to bypass file permission restrictions. (CVE-2014-8989)

    A flaw was discovered in how Thread Local Storage (TLS) is handled by the task switching function in the     Linux kernel for x86_64 based machines. A local user could exploit this flaw to bypass the Address Space     Layout Radomization (ASLR) protection mechanism. (CVE-2014-9419)

    Prasad J Pandit reported a flaw in the rock_continue function of the Linux kernel's ISO 9660 CDROM file     system. A local user could exploit this flaw to cause a denial of service (system crash or hang).
