Several security issues have been corrected in multiple demuxers and decoders of the libav multimedia library. A full list of the changes is available at

It was discovered that Libav incorrectly handled certain malformed media files. If a user were tricked into opening a crafted media file, an attacker could cause a denial of service via application crash, or possibly execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user invoking the program.

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

The libav project reports :

utvideodec: Handle slice_height being zero (CVE-2014-9604)

tiff: Check that there is no aliasing in pixel format selection (CVE-2014-8544)

    A remote attacker could possibly execute arbitrary code or cause a       Denial of Service condition.
  Workaround :

    There is no known workaround at this time.

Avidemux is built with a bundled set of FFmpeg libraries. The bundled FFmpeg version has been updated from 1.2.10 to 1.2.12 to fix these security issues and other bugs fixed upstream in FFmpeg.
