Apache Tomcat 9.0.0-M1 < 9.0.96 Multiple Vulnerabilities

critical Web App Scanning Plugin ID 114511

Synopsis

Apache Tomcat 9.0.0-M1 < 9.0.96 Multiple Vulnerabilities

Description

The version of Apache Tomcat installed on the remote host 9.0.0-M1 to 9.0.95, 10.1.0-M1 to 10.1.30 or 11.0.0-M1 to 11.0.0-M26. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities :

- If Tomcat was configured to use a custom Jakarta Authentication (formerly JASPIC) ServerAuthContext component which may throw an exception during the authentication process without explicitly setting an HTTP status to indicate failure, the authentication may not have failed, allowing the user to bypass the authentication process. (CVE-2024-52316)

- An incorrect recycling of the request and response used by HTTP/2 requests could lead to request and/or response mix-up between users. (CVE-2024-52317)

Note that the scanner has not attempted to exploit these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Apache Tomcat version 9.0.96 or later.
