HP Power Manager Management Server Login Form URL Parameter Buffer Overflow

High

Synopsis

HP Power Manager is prone to an overflow condition. The management server suffers from a boundary error when processing URL parameters passed to the login form, resulting in a stack-based buffer overflow. With a specially crafted 'Login' variable, a remote attacker can potentially execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges.

Note that this is basically the same vulnerability as covered by CVE-2009-2685. HP originally said that it was fixed in version 4.2.10, but during testing while generating a Nessus plugin, Tenable determined it was still vulnerable. As best we can tell, it was the same root vulnerability that wasn't fixed, as opposed to a fix that was still vulnerable with modification. Version 4.3.2 was released and fixed the issue.

Solution

Upgrade to version 4.3.2 or later.
