Junos OS: SSL-Proxy DoS (JSA10973)

high Nessus Plugin ID 130270

Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch.

Description

According to its self-reported version number, the remote Juniper Junos device is affected by a denial of service (DoS) vulnerability in the SSL-Proxy feature on SRX devices, which fails to handle a hardware resource limitation that can be exploited by remote SSL/TLS servers to crash the flowd daemon. Repeated crashes of the flowd daemon can result in an extended DoS condition. An unauthenticated, remote attacker can exploit this issue, by convincing clients protected by the SRX device to initiate a connection with a malicious server, which will cause the system to stop responding.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Apply the relevant Junos software release referenced in Juniper advisory JSA10973.
