Amazon Linux AMI : tcpdump (ALAS-2022-1641)

critical Nessus Plugin ID 168604

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux AMI host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of tcpdump installed on the remote host is prior to 4.9.2-4.24. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS-2022-1641 advisory.

- The VRRP parser in tcpdump before 4.9.3 has a buffer over-read in print-vrrp.c:vrrp_print() for VRRP version 3, a different vulnerability than CVE-2018-14463. (CVE-2019-15167)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update tcpdump' to update your system.
