Synopsis

The remote host is missing a macOS update that fixes multiple vulnerabilities

Description

The remote host is running a version of macOS / Mac OS X that is 13.x prior to 13.1. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities:

- Nokogiri is an open source XML and HTML library for Ruby. Nokogiri `< v1.13.4` contains an inefficient regular expression that is susceptible to excessive backtracking when attempting to detect encoding in HTML documents. Users are advised to upgrade to Nokogiri `>= 1.13.4`. There are no known workarounds for this issue. (CVE-2022-24836)

- Nokogiri is an open source XML and HTML library for Ruby. Nokogiri prior to version 1.13.6 does not type- check all inputs into the XML and HTML4 SAX parsers, allowing specially crafted untrusted inputs to cause illegal memory access errors (segfault) or reads from unrelated memory. Version 1.13.6 contains a patch for this issue. As a workaround, ensure the untrusted input is a `String` by calling `#to_s` or equivalent. (CVE-2022-29181)

- The issue was addressed with improved UI handling. This issue is fixed in iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2, macOS Ventura 13.1. Visiting a website that frames malicious content may lead to UI spoofing. (CVE-2022-32919)

- The issue was addressed with improved memory handling. This issue is fixed in macOS Monterey 12.6.2, macOS Ventura 13.1, macOS Big Sur 11.7.2. An app may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges.

A remote user may be able to cause unexpected app termination or arbitrary code execution.

- The issue was addressed with improved memory handling. This issue is fixed in macOS Monterey 12.6.2, macOS Ventura 13.1. An app may be able to disclose kernel memory. (CVE-2022-42854)

- A logic issue was addressed with improved state management. This issue is fixed in tvOS 16.2, macOS Monterey 12.6.2, macOS Ventura 13.1, iOS 15.7.2 and iPadOS 15.7.2, iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2. An app may be able to use arbitrary entitlements. (CVE-2022-42855)

- A type confusion issue was addressed with improved state handling. This issue is fixed in Safari 16.2, tvOS 16.2, macOS Ventura 13.1, iOS 15.7.2 and iPadOS 15.7.2, iOS 16.1.2. Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited against versions of iOS released before iOS 15.1.. (CVE-2022-42856)

- A memory corruption issue was addressed with improved input validation. This issue is fixed in macOS Ventura 13.1. An app may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges (CVE-2022-42858)

- Multiple issues were addressed by removing the vulnerable code. This issue is fixed in iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2, macOS Ventura 13.1, watchOS 9.2. An app may be able to bypass Privacy preferences. (CVE-2022-42859)

- A spoofing issue existed in the handling of URLs. This issue was addressed with improved input validation.
This issue is fixed in iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4. Visiting a malicious website may lead to address bar spoofing. (CVE-2022-46725)

- The issue was addressed with improved checks. This issue is fixed in macOS Ventura 13.1, watchOS 9.2, iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2, tvOS 16.2. An attacker with arbitrary read and write capability may be able to bypass Pointer Authentication. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited against versions of iOS released before iOS 15.7.1. (CVE-2022-48618)

Solution

Upgrade to macOS 13.1 or later.
