Synopsis

A PDF viewer installed on the remote Windows host is affected by a vulnerability

Description

According to its version, the Foxit PDF Reader application (previously named Foxit Reader) installed on the remote Windows host is prior to 12.1. It is, therefore affected by vulnerability:

- This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of Foxit PDF Reader 12.0.2.12465. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists within the handling of Annotation objects. The issue results from the lack of validating the existence of an object prior to performing operations on the object. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current process. Was ZDI-CAN-19478. (CVE-2022-43649)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Foxit PDF Reader version 12.1 or later
