Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of emacs installed on the remote host is prior to 27.2-4. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS2-2023-2012 advisory.

- org-babel-execute:latex in ob-latex.el in Org Mode through 9.6.1 for GNU Emacs allows attackers to execute arbitrary commands via a file name or directory name that contains shell metacharacters. (CVE-2023-28617)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update emacs' to update your system.
