Tenable CISO Workshops during Interop 2007 New York Now Open for Registration

October 25, 2007 · Columbia, MD

What:
Marcus Ranum, Chief Information Security Officer for Tenable Network Security, will present one-day workshops during Interop 2007.

“Advanced Firewall and Network Security” covers the philosophical tricks and technical approaches that experts use in building advanced firewall architectures. Attendees will learn about the art of firewall design and build high-performance high-security systems. “Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDS/IPS) for IT Managers” is the second workshop. After firewalls, IDS have become one of the most widely deployed security technologies on most networks. In this Workshop, Marcus examines the underlying principles of IDS/IPS: how it works, its strengths and its weaknesses.

Marcus J. Ranum is a world-renowned expert on security system design and implementation and is a pioneer in creation of the technology of Information Security – from firewalls to intrusion detection and beyond. In the late 1980's he developed the first successful commercial firewall product, the DEC SEAL. When the Clinton administration decided to connect The White House to the Internet, Marcus designed, implemented, and managed whitehouse.gov, The President's secure Email server. Based on the technology he developed for whitehouse.gov, Marcus implemented a second commercial firewall product, the Trusted Information Systems Gauntlet firewall, which at one point was the firewall market leader.
