[R1] Nessus Version 10.8.4 Fixes Multiple Vulnerabilities

High

Synopsis

Nessus leverages third-party software to help provide underlying functionality. Several of the third-party components (libxml2, expat) were found to contain vulnerabilities, and updated versions have been made available by the providers.

Out of caution and in line with best practice, Tenable has opted to upgrade these components to address the potential impact of the issues. Nessus Version 10.8.4 updates libxml2 to version 2.13.7 and expat to version 2.7.0 to address the identified vulnerabilities.

Additionally, two separate vulnerabilities were discovered, reported and fixed:

When installing Nessus to a non-default location on a Windows host, Nessus versions prior to 10.8.4 did not enforce secure permissions for sub-directories. This could allow for local privilege escalation if users had not secured the directories in the non-default installation location. - CVE-2025-24914

In Nessus versions prior to 10.8.4, a non-authenticated attacker could alter Nessus logging entries by manipulating http requests to the application. - CVE-2025-36625

Solution

Tenable has released Nessus 10.8.4 to address these issues. The installation files can be obtained from the Tenable Downloads Portal: https://www.tenable.com/downloads/nessus
