[R1] Dell KACE K2000 System Deployment Appliance Read-Only Account Default Credentials Remote Information Disclosure

Medium

Synopsis

Dell KACE K2000 Systems Deployment Appliance installs with default credentials for an account designed for third-party reporting applications. The 'report' account has a password of 'box747', which is publicly known and documented. This allows remote attackers to trivially gain privileged access to the web GUI, allowing for the disclosure of information including additional account usernames and password hashes.

Reproduction steps:

o Login using the read-only account designed for 3rd party reporting apps
- mysql -u report -p -h [target]
o supply the password "box747"
- run the MySQL commands:
o use KBDB
o select * from USER;

Solution

As of 2011-10-13, CERT/CC indicated that Dell was preparing to release an update. Unfortunately, the original KB posted by Dell has since been removed from the site, so it is unclear if a solution was published.
